Day 3 Dear Diary, Well, I suppose I should say journal since I’ve never referred to you as a diary before. You’re simply a way to record my travels, adventures, my daily occurrences. You’re my greatest friend and even greater enemy. I like to think of you as a way to save my game of life. Anyway, today started differently than the other times we’ve stayed at Katt’s home; we got to sleep in. By sleep in I, of course, mean we got to stay in bed until noon before her parents came in and told us that they needed to get some things from the non-world and wanted us all to come with them. At first I tried to weasel my way out of it, claiming I was having a hard time changing back into my human form (I had stayed in my feline form for the entirety of the night) to which they replied that they would have Katt or one of the others carry me around. I had no choice but to allow myself to be carried around by one of them for the day, which was a lot better than walking, although I knew that I would be doing a lot of it once everyone got tired of lugging me around. Once we were ready, and had a bit of spending money from Katt’s parents, we activated our summoner’s circles all at once and they merged into one huge and complex one, which we were told was a transportation spell. Once everyone had stabilized the spell-circle we were teleported, or transported, or maybe even trans-modulated, to the non-world, the fae world. As I said, it’s not much different from the normal world. The only major difference is the elemental beings that are made of their elements. There’s the Treant who controls the plants, there’s the Terran that control the stone, there’s the ice spirits and Nalin that control ice and water, and then there’s the Aodh who control fire. The treants are exactly what they sound like, they’re trees that can move, and speak most of the time. The Terran are stones that are held together by magic. The Nalin look like the Terran but made of ice or sometimes water in the warm seasons. The Aodh, who have been banned from any place with flammable things, are pure fire. If you’ve ever seen a huge bonfire, they look like that, but with arms and legs, and they’re the size of the average person. The first person I met when we went to the Fae world was an Aodh named Ahdan, who was Katt’s parents’ connection to whatever business they were a part of. After we got there we all split up, leaving me to be picked up by Leo and dragged off to the shopping center where we found several magic pendants and enchanted items for sale. There were charms for luck, items for curses, and even a supposed “love potion” which I decided was a fake. I decided to buy a Star Charm which gave the holder immunity to most other charms or potions. Not to say I was afraid that Leo was staring at the love potion or anything, but it certainly made me nervous. Luckily the charm was being sold by a changer so it came with an attachment for a collar, which I purchased next from a stall down in the center of the bazar. “Stop thief!” We had both heard it, and looked around for whoever had yelled but we couldn’t see them. “I said stop! You two, the Changer and the cat!” That had caught our attention, was there another changer carrying a cat somewhere nearby? Or was it really us they were looking for? When I was torn from Leo’s grasp and placed under paralysis magic, and Leo was handcuffed, we knew it was us they had wanted. But why, why did they think that we had stolen anything, we had paid for everything we had on us. Maybe this was all just a mistake. The Jail We soon learned it was no mistake. We were wanted as thieves of a rather expensive charm that had the power of Curse, one of the dozen mail elements. Curse was rather finicky when being used; one wrong word with it, and it could end up backfiring. I had a while to think about all of the elements, from fire, to water, to Light and darkness. There were about ten or so in all. Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Curse, Light, Darkness, Ice, Fairy (which is extremely rare, even to the high-fae), Magic, and Spirit were all of the elemental types. I was still under the paralysis magic, although I was willing to cast it under the element of curse due to its harmful effects. Leo was lucky though, he wasn’t placed under any charm, but he was handcuffed by powerful protection magic. I was unsure of what would happen to us, if they would discover they made a mistake, or use the extent of the Fae law and place us to death for theft of a powerful artifact. I certainly was hoping for the first. It took several hours for the Curse to wear off, but as soon as it did; I tried changing, which would have been foolish if I had succeeded since I wouldn’t have any clothes on. My summoner’s circle wouldn’t form and when it did form, it was unstable and wouldn’t activate the symbols on it. It took another hour before everyone showed up, including Katt’s parents who brought along Ahdan since apparently he was the legal consultant for their underground business. We were told that in order to prove innocence we’d have to go in front of the High King Grawlthroud. The king was notorious for using the death penalty instead of holding court, so I decided to voice my opinion of the matter by hissing. Hissing is a really fun thing to do, anyone can do it, you just need to put your tongue almost against the roof of your mouth and breathe outward hard. The guards came soon after and gave us horrible news. We were to be executed unless we could bring forward the money to pay for the item. Katt’s parents agreed but on one condition; we had to be powder runners for one month. Powder was like a drug from the overworld, it gave the user enhanced senses and magical abilities. Most of the time it’s completely fine, but if it’s enhanced with the root of a Treant then it gains drug-like qualities, becomes addictive but allows for quick summoning and magic. Some of the best changers use the normal Powder and some use the illegal Powder, the ones that use the illegal one are usually the ones that can change within a second or two while the ones that use the non-addictive version can change within ten seconds. I decided to decline for a moment before Leo grabbed me and asked if I would rather die. I had to think for another moment about that. Did I want to die, or would I rather become a drug runner in the world of the Fae and the normal world. I gave in and chose the far less painful decision of possible jail time and the world of Kegging, which is another way of saying that we were powder runners. When the guards returned they paid the fee and the Fae lifted their magic and we left the jail with Katt’s dad carrying my roughly by the scruff. “You owe us a debt now, you know.” Katt’s dad said with his gruff voice. “Both of you do. Do you have any idea how much that thing cost?” I opened my voice to answer him before realizing it was a rhetorical question. I instead turned my head towards Leo. “Hey Leo, can you take me away from him before he rips my neck off?” I asked, worried that he really would rip off my scruff. “Sorry Kitten, I’m under direct orders to not hold you for the rest of the Kegging time.” He said turning away from me. How rude. I tried Jason next, giving him the cutest kitty eyes I could muster and pouted and asked if he would take me away from Mr. Ahlstrom. “Sure, after all, I’m allowed to hold you.” I was relieved and so happy. Until I realized that he grabbed and held me by the scruff too. “But I do have to hold you like this.” He said smiling. “You’re a monster.” “I know.” He proclaimed happily as we went back to the place we first appeared in.
