At the Master Emerald altar, Knuckles the Echidna and the rest of Chaotix witness a Warp Ring appear on the isle.  And out of the Warp Ring walks Scourge the Hedgehog and the rest of the Destructix.

Knuckles questions why Scourge is here.  The green hedgehog arrogantly replies that he’s come for the Master Emerald.  And that he’s willing to beat him down to take it.

Scourge unleashes a Spin Dash at Knuckles, which he easily blocks.  Meanwhile, like in the old days, the Chaotix fight the Destructix; Espio the Chameleon vs. Lightning Lynx, Charmy the Bee vs. Predator Hawk, Vector the Crocodile vs. Flying Frog, and Mighty the Armadillo vs. Sergeant Simian.  However, the most surprising match-up is Ray the Flying Squirrel vs. Fiona Fox.

As Knuckles and Scourge fight, the green hedgehog states that the last time he tried to steal the Master Emerald, he and Rouge had to fight Locke.  Scourge then taunts Knuckles, asking if something happened to his father.

Angered by Scourge’s words, Knuckles punches him so hard that he knocks the wind out of him.

As for the rest of the Chaotix, they seem to have the edge against their Destructix counterparts.  Espio jabs Lightning Lynx with his horn.  Charmy stings Predator Hawk.  Vector chomps down on Flying Frog.  And Mighty outmuscles Sergeant Simian.

Meanwhile, Ray is trying to reason with Fiona.

Ray: What happened to you, Fiona?  You were happily dating Sonic.  But then you went missing.  And when you turned up, you revealed that you were cheating on him with Scourge.

Fiona: It’s simple.  I realized that I like bad boys.

Ray: That doesn’t make any sense!  Why would you betray all your friends for him?  What is it about Scourge that you like?

Fiona is about to speak, but she is unable to find the answer.  What does she like about Scourge?

Ray: And what about Sonic?  Why are you antagonizing him?

Fiona: Why wouldn’t I?  He left me imprisoned years ago!  You should be able to understand abandonment after Sonic and Mighty left you behind.

Ray: What are you talking about?!  You’ve already forgiven him for that misunderstanding!

Fiona: I… what?

Fiona is bewildered by Ray’s words.  Scourge managed to overhear the conversation and now looks concerned.

Just then everyone notices that the world is vanishing into a white light.

Scourge panics and opens a Warp Ring.  Fiona tells him to wait as she and the rest of the Destructix run after him.  However, the portal closes before Fiona can reach the ring.

Both the Chaotix and the Destructix are caught in the Genesis Wave…

The light fades.  And the world has returned to normal… seemingly.  Everyone feels dizzy at first, but they manage to shake it off… except for Fiona, who is holding her head in shock.

Overwhelmed by this reality changing events, the Destructix decide to flee.  The Chaotix are about to give chase, but they decide against the idea.  Instead, they turn their attention to Mighty and Ray.

Mighty and Ray are tending to Fiona, asking if she’s okay.

Fiona continues to hold her head as lies on the ground.

Fiona: I remember… everything.

Fiona’s turn to evil never made any sense.  So, I’ve been dying to write a story to make sense of her sudden shift.  And this chapter is only the introduction.

Seriously, if Fiona was into bad boys, why didn’t she take interest in Shadow instead?  Hell, I would’ve had a laugh if fell in love with Sonic the Werehog.

Anyways, I shouldn’t give too much away for what I have planned, but I hope you guys enjoy this set-up story.

And yes, I do plan to follow-up with what Scourge will do next.  And the same goes for the Destructix… who have numbered down to the Fearsome Foursome again…
