I open my eyes, feel the soft swaying, rocking me back to sleep… Side to side I move, drowsily clearing my mind as I look up to the starry promenade covering me like a cold blanket of dark and light, of night and stars. A clear sky, emblazoned by darkness, lit by millions of sprinkles, like endless colonies of fireflies. And so, I close my eyes, let my vision sink deep into darkness as I listen carefully, yet my ears reach nothing but the whispers of the wind, carrying with them, wishes and sighs from all over the world. Paying their penitence to live forever lost in an endless ocean of silence on which I sail… The salty wind on my nose, bringing memories that aren’t mine, memories from people smiling, from suffering a hundred years ago, from long lost loves, from ghosts that never came… As I stand up to sit on my broken legs, I look around me, nothing but a black endless ocean, everywhere I look. Nothing but cold water and dark skies. And I look up once again, in a futile attempt to find an island amidst the dark sky, for my hopes of ever finding land below have vanished, just like my memories. And so, I sail calmly, on my way to somewhere. On a trip I can’t remember starting, a trip I can’t see the end of, a journey to which I know no destination. Lost in time, I close my eyes again, lay down and let the swaying rock me back to sleep, only to awaken later and repeat everything once more. Still moving, never stopping, on my way to somewhere.
