Titanfall 2 Story Part 6 Chapter 1: New Frontiers The first couple weeks was rather slow, getting settled and used to the way things roll around the”Starfire”, or the Last resort’s mobile homebase. Not much different then the old Pilot training base I left… well, minius the whole “mobile” part. Me and Cassie spend a lot of time in the sim rooms, making sure we stay on top of our game. But more of less, the time is ours to spend the way we see fit. Since we are not on the list for deployments yet, the most we gotta deal with the occasional meeting. Sometimes, I take rounds on the Gauntlet… such simpler times it was back then, when I was still in grunt School, learning how to even hold a gun. Now, through thick and thin, I’m here. My own Titan, ready to face the unknown. Speaking of Titans, I’ve also gotten to know my giant robot companion. Yeah, they got minds of their own… sure their robots, but over time, the develop their own little minds. It’s not as advance as full sentience like Humans, but over time they develop a sense of the things around them. They remember people, locations, suffiguant events and battles. And between Pilot and Titan, a personal bond forms… yeah, I get it, bonding with a robot? Long story short, Titans are a lot smarter than you think. They may surprise you. Recently, things have been getting busy around here. Pilots come and go on a daily basis, random faces flashing by, never to be seen again. Even some Pilots from the front lines stop by the Last resort to restock on supplies, but since we separated, I haven’t found any traces of my old squad. I do still think of them from time to time… again, simpler times back then. Regardless, things have been hinting towards me and Cassie finally getting our first deployment. “Hey, Jet, Cassie, I think we got some work for you.” Davis meet us in the Sim room. Lucky, we were just finishing a practice round. “Yeah, whatcha got for us?” Cassie took of her helmet. “We got a Harvester in need of reinforcements down in Angel City, the Pilots there are holding their own, but they got a man down and the IMC are overwhelming their location hard with Stalkers and Reapers.” davis explained. “We’re ready to go… in fact, we’ve been ready since we got here.” I crossed my arms. ‘Good, you deploy in five minutes, get down to the hanger and load up in the transports. We’ll prep you're Titans in the meantime.” Davis replied and walked out. Me and Cassie shared a nod and made our way to the hanger. Before we even got close to the Harvester’s location in the City, we could see the destruction out in the distance. Looks like IMC already got Titans in the area to… Jesus, what a mess. By the time we got to the DZ, we could see the Harvester was at critical, and the three surviving pilots were trapped in an alley, fighting off Stalkers. Out transport hovered over the Harvester, and myself and Cassie jumped out, I instantly grappled mid air to the nearest rooftop, as Cassie suddenly turned invisible. “I’ll help the survivors, start clearing out the Harvester.” Cassie’s radio hissed to life. “All over it.” I replied, and got my eyes on a squad of drones flying over… why did it have to be drones? Looks like they got a Ion Titan behind them.... Wonderful. I guess the Titan is the biggest threat here. I rolled my eyes, and started jumping from rooftop to rooftop, as I started to get close, I reached into a pouch on my belt and pulled out a Firestar, than, using one of the passing drones as a springboard, Leaped head on at the Titan, throwing the firestar right as the Cockpit. It stumbled back, and took a wild swing at the air, taking down a billboard. Landing on it’s massie gun, I slid down it’s arm and jumped onto it’s back. Then, I found myself holding on for dear life as the Pilot inside must of recovered. Thankfully, I found a convenient hand rail on the Ion’s back that I used to brace. As everything started to settle down, the Cockpit opened and the Pilot jumped out, climbed up the left side, and meet me up top. “Get off my Titan!” She… apparently she… yelled. “Sorry Sweetheart, but we can’t let you blow up our Harvester.” I winked, and jumped into the air, grabbed onto the Titan’s arm, and swung around, sky-kicking the Pilot in the chest. She almost fell off, but her Titan grabbed her before then and ran back up the now extended arm and meet me with a phase-shift behind me… my Grapple retracted and she pushed me off course, sending me tumbling to the ground… not a good show for my first deployment. I got up and pulled out my Wingman sidearm, sending a couple shots at the enemy pilot, who just sidestepped and got back into her Titan. Using my Jump kit to lunch myself into the air, I pulled out another Firestar, and once again landed in square on the Cockpit… this time, I could see the thermite melt through the glass and I could see the polit start to panik inside. In her panic, she started charging up a Laser shot… I launched my grappling hook to the Titan’s chest and zipped away just in time as I felt a hot blast wizz behind me. I let the hook go halfway through and Jump-Jetted up to the Cockpit. “Sup?” I winked, pulling out a grenade with one hand while holding on with the other. The Pilot tried pulling out her SMG, but before she could fire, I pulled the pin on my grenade and tossed it in. Then I let go and grappled to the safety of a window. I climbed inside the building and turned around just in time to see the cockpit explode in a shower of sparks and blood. The Titan spilled over onto its side, with no trace of the polit. Then… I just remember the Drones… I jumped outside to be showered with a hail of plasma fire. I rolled behind a car and pulled out my Spitfire LMG… leaning around the rear bumper, I took aim and let it rip. I destroyed the first two Drones and then got a crazy idea… I grappled onto one of the Drones and it sent me flying over the battlefield. I managed to spray and pray the last Drone, then I holstered my LMG, focusing on holding on for dear life. Chapter 2; Show Me The World! Still hanging off the Drone with my grapple hook, I ended up being carried off across the battlefield. I could Cassie and the other Pilots, who got control over the problem and were now moving closer to the Harvester. As the Drone did another flyover out itional drop zone, I could see the Pilots creating a defensive barrier around the Harvester, but Cassie looked confused…. But before I went to land, I could see another swarm of IMC forces coming in from the east. “Ugh… where’d the hell did you go?” Cassie asked over radio… it took a minute, but I finally got the drone to swoop down and I got my feet on the ground, then using the momentum from the grapple hook, I swing the Drone right into a wall. “Are you insane!?” One of the Pilots shouted. I laughed, dusting off my leg armor. “What? I got plenty of experience with this thing… also, we got more IMC coming in from the East. we should get ready.” I replied. “Jezz… sometimes I wonder if you ever think before acting.” Cassie facepalmed on her helmet. “I learn from the best… anyway, let’s get back to work.” I shrugged, and grappled off to another rooftop. Looking off into the distance, I could see at least a dozen Titans, with almost double Reapers. “Anyone got their Titans up?” I asked over radio. “I could call mine in… same with Cassie’s” One Polit replied. “You might wanna call them in…” I replied… just as I finished, I saw something from the corner of my eye… clock drones… little fuckers… then I got an idea… I waited for them to get close… hearing friendly Titan’s drop in the background. Then… waited for the perfect moment, lined up the shot, and attached a hook to the nearest Clock Drone. It started to panic, and started flying in the complete wrong direction… revealing a Nuke Titan in the process. “Ugh… that’s not good…” I looked back at the Nuke Titan… but I had bigger things to worry about… now flying a couple meters off the ground with nothing but a single hook keeping me from falling to my doom… attached to a very unstable drone. To try and stablesize it, I pressed a button on the side of my grapple launcher, and the hook started retracting, bringing me closer to the drone. Using my free hand, I got my Data Knife from my belt… thankfully this is one strong hook. I ran my knife across the Drone, until I found some kinda access point… stabbing the knife inside, I hit the activation. Soon, the clocking beam disabled… I guess I was in control now. Next stupid Idea… I retracted the Hook fully, and used my Jump Kit to get on top of the drone… It’s just big enough to hold my entire weight. Adjusting my footing, I started using it like a hoverboard. In no time, I was darting around the combat zone like fucking Jak and Daxter. I flew past the other Pilots and the looks I got… “Oh my God..” Cassie sighed. “That guy is truly nuts…” One Pilot muttered… “Not nuts, just… creative.” Cassie admitted. I laughed to myself as I weaved in between buildings and Titans alike, the rush of adrenaline hitting me like a ton of bricks… I felt invincible. I swear I started doing tricks… jumping over signs, handstands… flips… you name it. As the battle raged on, I used my Drone as a mobile shooting platform, always able to get the flank and perfect rocket off at the enemy. “I am definitely keeping this thing!” I shouted in my spree. Once, I ended up flying straight at a Reaper, stuck a Firestar on him, jumped off the Drone, fired a whole mag into his back mid air, then grappled back to my Done without breaking a sweat. Before I knew it, the IMC were in retreat… the Harvester, and its resources, were safe. Perfect timing, as the Drone started losing power as I went for a landing… it fell from under me, and I face planted in the dirt. “You are… truly special..” Cassie tried not to laugh. I stood up, and picked up the powerless Drone. “That… was… AWESOME!” I still felt the rush of combat in my veins. “Well, good news Pilots, scans show the IMC are in full retreat. We got dropships inbound to pick you up.” Davis announced over radio. “A shame we lost a pilot out there, but nice save regardless guys.” Droz added. By the time we got back on the Starfire, everyone wanted to know why I had the drone with me… and I told everyone the story… this new job is kickass! Chapter 3: Wet Work Remember when I said things were getting busy? Yeah… now me and Cassie are being deployed with two other pilots to a water world… with huge mountains that, according to geological scans, are rich with metals. One mountain has a flat top, about the size of a football field that has the most concentration of metals… but it’s gonna be a bitch to defend. Thankfully, I spent most of my free time upgrading the Drone I stole from the IMC… now it runs on a Militia AI, with advanced power cells to last a full 24 hours if need be, and now las a big enough flat surface for me to freely adjust my footing. The dropship took us to the DZ, and a cargo carrier dropped the Harvester… after a couple minutes of setting everything up, the machine was in full swing. The ships left the planet, and we were meet with a few odd hours of silence… “This… does not fit right…” I admitted, scanning the horizon… nothing but water and a few more jagged mountains. “I’m getting goosebumps…” One of the other Pilots, Arrowhead, commented. Myself and Cassie got paired up with an oddball pair this time around… Arrowhead and Scorch. These too are more on the wild side… punk hair, gothic armor designs… but overall, they are good at the job… and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters. How they dress up is none of my business. “I’m getting jumpy back here…” Scorch looked like he was ready to shoot the first fish that jumped outta the water…. But it wasn't a fish… as if on cue, a Reaper jumped out of the endless ocean and onto our mountain. It looked like it was modified to be able to function under water. “How the…?” Cassie jumped back to avoid being crushed. Arrowhead sprung into action, pulling out his duel Wingman relovers and going wild…. To my surprise, he is more accurate than I expected, hitting the Reaper in the eye a couple of times, keeping hom distracted enough for me to sneak behind it and slap a satchel charge on his back. “Clear the blast zone!” I shouted…. Gave everyone a few seconds to clear out, and hit the switch. Reaper bits went flying all over. “That was… unexpected…” Cassie admitted. “That can’t be the only one… I’ll get on my Drone and take a flyby of the aera.” Before anyone could reject, I took the Drone off my back and powered him up, setting the small device on the ground and flipping a side switch. The box then transformed into the full size flight drone. He greeted me with a few beeps, then I got ready to fly. Jumping on, I darted off over the water…. Only downside of carrying a drone on my back, is I have to room for a rocket launcher. The Arrowhead and Scorch watched in awe as I raced across the sky. “Duuuuuuuuude that’s badass!” Arrowhead started laughing. “Shoulda seen him when he got the drone in the first place.” Cassie chuckled. “Yo, does he even need a Titan anymore??” Scorch asked, still watching me fly around… funny enough, I haven’t used my Titan since I got my drone… not he’s do any good on a water world. Anyway, I continued flying around until I could see something massive and fussy in the distance… I activate the zoom on my visor… also almost fell off my Drone to what I saw. A goddamn IMC floating fortress, about the size of a old world aircraft carrier, was slowly making its way towards us. I also saw a squadron of flying Northstar Titans with it… “Guys… we are gonna need some backup…” I spoke into the open channel, so the Starfire could hear us. “Oh great, what now?” Cassie sighed. “Well… I’m just staring off a giant floating fortress… no biggie.” I replied sarcastically. “Well, perfect timing, we’ve been upgrading yout Titans for water and air use. Call em in when you're ready.” Davis replied. Only a few minutes later, I heard the crackling of robots falling from the sky. I waited for the fortress to get closer… I left the air rushing towards me… guess I should do something, eh? I reached up and tapped the side of my helmet… the blue marker appeared on my HUD and I looked up into the sky…. Then a small circle opened up. In a blast of smoke, a rupture appeared among the clouds and blue sky… then a red and black speck started falling. As it got closer, the features became clear… my Legion came into view. In a sudden flash, my Titan splashed into the ocean in front of me, sending water everywhere within a two mile radius. Finally, the last sparkling droplets settled back down where they belonged… not all over me. Wiping myself off, the ocean exploded again… covering me head to toe. “Ugh… son of a…” I grumbled… shaking the water off my armor. Then, after the water settled once more, I saw my Titan hovering in front of me… apparently, Davis and Droz gave him jet bostersand some sort sealed cockpit and main body, to keep the water of damaging anything important. Like a oversized walking submarine. The cockpit opened, and I jumped off the Done who compacted into the smaller form and followed me in. “Pilot onboard… Cockpit resealing activated. All systems ready for combat.” That will never get old… “Heya Guardian, been a while, eh?” I started taking the controles. I ended up giving him the name Guardian based off his advanced Auto AI programing he was fitted with. Almost two times better than those old assault chips. “Yes, nice to see you again safe.” Guardian replied, drawing some sorta harpoon launcher. I guess normal weapons won't work in water… fair enough. “Ready to kick some ass, buddy? We got a flying fortress to take down.” I turned around and saw my squad flying over. “Duuuuuude this is awesome!” Arrowhead shouted over comms. “Yoooo… flying Tones, harpoon guns!? RAD!” Scorch added. “Alright, ready to go?” Cassie sounded a little annoyed at our squadmates. “Systems at 100%” Guardian reported. “Well, let’s go fuck up a fortress then, shall we?” My and the squad turned to face the mencene that bore down on us. Chapter 4: The Bigger They Are... “Alright, Scorch, Arrowhead, keep the enemy Titans busy. Me and Caiie are gonna try to destroy the Fortress outboard defences.” I explained the plan. “Consider it done, dude!” The borth replied in usion and flew off. “You sure we are up for this?” Cassie admitted. “We’ll be fine… er… I hope… let’s just go!” I replied, charging headfirst into the meat grinder. Before I even got within shooting distance, a railgun shot blasted bast my left. “Enemy fortress has five long range weapon emplacements… advise evasive maneuvers to prioritise targets.” Guardian reported. Tightening my grip on the controls, I started zig zagging, a classic. Finally, I got in range, and got my massive harpoon ready. Narrowly missing another rail shot, I took aim and fired a giant arrow straight down the barrel of one of the railguns, causing it to backfire and blow up. To my left, Arrowhead darted by, widely sending off a Salvo Core… blasting off some of the Fortress armor and destroying one of the smaller AA guns. Then he got into a mid air brawl with a enemy Northstar… meanwhile, Cassie actually landed on the top of the fortress, and punched a hole in the top where she started firing inside. “Whatcha doing over there?” I asked her over comms. “Oh, just seeing if anyone’s home..” She laughed… but before she jumped off, she was blindsided by a Enemy Titan, and the two got into a midair fumble. Before I could go to help her, some sorta massive grabbleing hock latched onto the back of my Titan. “What the?” I tried to turn myself to see it. “The enemy is pulling us into the fortress… brace for landing.” Guardian explained before the massive hook pulled us into the hanger…. I deactivated the jetpack system and we handed with a loud CLANG…. Then, silence… I started walking around the Hanger.. No Titans, ships, or anything… until, the big blast doors at the far end of the room, and a very tricked out looking Rohin walked in… Bulky Armor the size of a legion, with a sword that I swear was leaking acid in a trial behind it. The Cockpit opened and some creepy looking half robot dude was sitting inside. “Well well well… look what the net pulled in today… some louzy Last resort Pilot?” The Enemy polit scoffed. I threw the Harpoon gun to the side and pulled out the Legion Cannon, the barrel extended into full length and started spinning up. “Please… don’t loom so tough. What’s four lonely pilots gonna do to us, eh?” The enemy smiled and went back into his cockpit… the Titan then took a combat stance, drawing it’s sword and and saw the blade was laced in some sorta Acid substance. “Be careful polit, the substance on the enemy’s sword can cut right through us.” Guardian warned. “Thanks for the warning...:” I replied, switching the cannon to close range mode… then, I let her rip. Of course, the bastard Phase Dashed… and ended up behind me. I turned around, and before the sword of doom could get a hit in, I bashed the cockpit of the enemy with the barrel of my gun, sending him stumbling back. Getting his balance back, the Titan held up his arm… a wrist mounted cannon charged up and fired a ball of green liquid at us, taken off guard, Guardian took over for me, dashing to the left and retaliating with a long-rage-mode powered shot, going right through the left arm, cutting off the acid launcher. “Phew… thanks for the back up there.” I shook my shock off. “No problem Polit, stay focused.” Guardian replied. Now with only one arm, the Rhoin made a brake for it… running through the blast doors. I decided to give chase, sneaking through before they even started closing. As I was chasing him, Grunts on the floor below started to scatter, automated pea shooting turrentes opened fire… with a single swipe of a fist, Guardian took out turrets, Grunts, and Spectors alike. The enemy Titan took a left, and before we could catch up, a shockwave came screaming through the entire ship… then a louder explosion knocked us over. “Jet, we got the engines knocked out on this thing… but apparently you're in here?” Cassie reported in… I tried by best to follow the enemy Titan, but by the time we reached the Hanger on the other side, he was already in a small escape ship and long gone… “Yeah… we tried getting some important dude but he got away… we’ll meet you back at the Harvester.” I replied. “Don’t worry, he won't be lost for long. Get get back here before the entire thing falls into the ocean.” Cassie replied right as another shock wave rocket the ship. Guardian jumped out of the hanger doors as IMC escape ships swarmed the sky. As we were flying back to the Harvester, I turned around and saw what was left of the fortress dunk into the ocean… but I swear that was easier than expected...
