I lived on the outskirts on the City Limits, in a nice cozy Cottage, within walking distance, of the Imperial City. It is home. However, it is also the reason I am even able to live anyway near people. I am not an ordinary person. I can't live around others. I often take walks to the forest at night from my home, so I have time to 'shift', and release my primal urges. Safely. I am not a violent person. But I have my quirks. One night, I made a terrible mistake, I shifted right outside, at the edge of the forest, someone saw me... someone who recognized me... I would not realize this till I would return to my home to sleep. As I go to my bed to rest, a pounding at my door, and then men with swords burst open. The Imperial Guard. They claim to know, they do know, that I... am a werewolf! But... I have never killed another person in my life as a werewolf... must I be taken? Yes! I am Imprisoned, in the Imperial Prison, right outside the Imperial City. A place where everyone from pick-pockets, cat-burglars, murderers, beggars, and homeless are tossed to. I face the brutality of their interrigations, the 'dunk' bucket and its 'unique' aroma, the baton of truth telling, the lack of 3 meals a day... over a miserable week... I could not memorize the entire case of the Prison to write in my journal. But, there was one guard who sympathized with me... the poor creature... Heavens bless the man who took pity upon me, and showed me kindness, and was willing to visit my cell to talk, and give me a drink from a waterskin he filled. He found it believable that I discovered a way to tame my bestial urges, and that I did not hunt and kill people of the city, like I had told the other Guardsmen. He found it painful that the other guardsmen went to such lengths of brutality to seek justice against anyone deemed criminal, when the patron God of Justice preached mercy. And he found it hard that they could never find it believable that there could be a chance at innocence in any being, whether it be human, elf, orc, or lizardfolk. I asked of him of what hope there was that I could get a trial, should he speak to the other guards, that my case be pleaded for justice. He said it was questionable. This is not a just world, but justice exists, and I would wait, and hope that this man of benevolence could find out anything for me. Another week passed... and things felt as grim as ever... but the guard returned... day by day, to talk and provide me with water, only to come back one day with the most grim of news. His face was pale and ghostly, so I knew his news was bad, but, it was the worst, they were planning to execute me... they had no evidence to tie me to any killing, or any crime, or suggest any interest in any possible cruelty or violence, but they have hate, hate towards monsters, and I am one. The only hope I have is escaping, which the guard was willing to do, but he would not fight for me, as he would not be marked a criminal. At night, he would release me from my cell, and guide me past the night patrols unseen... and the rest of the way is up to me. At nightfall, he arrived, and I shifted, it was once very unpleasent, also uncomfortable, but I had learned to make it painless. He unlocked my cell and released me, and led me out the cellblock lighting the way by torchlight... However, not far away from cellblock was a guard in front of a troop of 4 Imperial Legionarres. "I knew you were up to something when I spotted you swiping that key! It's too late! The Wolfman dies either tonight or by morning, and now you as well!" For the first time in my life, I need to kill, but this is not going to be murder, I am defending myself and an innocent. "Fight with me if you want to live and escape! We have no choice but to defend ourselves from these fanatical zealots!" I said to my new friend. He was unwilling to stay in the fight however, standing back, shield up, only swinging if someone got near him, I took down four men, and one who careless attacked him. "If anything it would be wise to avoid fighting further and leave quickly and stealthily as originally planned, I might be strong in this form, but I'm still mortal... plus I'm injured..." I said... pointing at the slash wounds across my chest. We managed to leave much of the way un-noticed, until we got outside the entrance, in which archers and the gateguard spotted us. The gateguard sealed the gate... and the archers hailed arrows upon us. A horn was blown, and there was much shouting. The only option was to fighting the three men guarding the gate controls, crank and lever, and re-open them ourselves, before we are filled with holes by the archers. The men guarding the gates did not put up much of a fight, as I killed two of them easily, and one fled. I paid no attention to the one fleeing, you need not kill everyone. "I'm hit!" My new friend said, as we began opening the gate. "Me too!" I told him. By the time we had opened the gate, he had three arrows in his back, and I had two. Reinforcements had arrived. "Save yourself!" He said. "No!" I said. I did my best to run and carry him. I ran as fast as I could. The guard pursued us. I did not stop running. I heard my new friend yell a few times. The guard was in the distance, unable to catch up, the forest nearby, I kept running with my friend. "It hurts!" "In the forest!, its safe there!" I said. By the time I was in the forest, and stopped running, I noticed his legs were bleeding. I was apparently dragging his legs. "Gods, I'm sorry, I didn't notice, your legs!" "Finally, you stopped, and finally we're away from them too, damn this hurts, damn it all! Argh, how will I recover if I can't go into the city to see a healer?" He said. If anything, I was not a talented healer then, now am I now, if anything, I could not leave my friend to bleed to death and die, I was enraged at myself. My primal fear kept me from thinking, kept me running, and now my friends needs more help than I can provide. I must do something, but what...
