Titanfall 2 Story part 1: Welcome to The Frontier Chapter 1: The Polit Dream The alarm blared as morning returned to Training Base Omega. I’ve been training here since the destruction of IMC home planet of Typhon where, as the stories go, the legendary pilot Jack Cooper and his titan BT risked it all to save the Militia planet of Harmony from total destruction. Cooper survived but BT was destroyed in the process. This myjour Militia victory inspired thousands of men and women like myself to join with the Militia to help end the IMC once and for all. Although I have not been dispatched yet, I have been training to become a Heavy Weapons Expert but like all foot soldiers, I always dreamed of becoming a polit. Like having two worlds become one in a giant walking robot tank of doom. Regardless of my day dreaming, I got outta bed and quickly changed into my training uniform. Basic camo long sleeve shirt over a thin under armour vest with a baggy pair of camo jeans. Not the most comfortable thing in the world, but it's not supposed to be. As I walked out of my room, I could see my training partner Sif Frostfire. We go back from even before Typhon’s destruction. Before signing onto the military we used to be in university together taking the Criminal Justice course to because peacekeepers. But after we learned about the victory of Typhon and the Militia army growing in strength, we did not hesitate to sign up. Sif went into the Riflemen tree and I chose Heavy Weapons because hey, blowing stuff up is fun. “Oi, about time you got up.” Sif ran up and gave me a shove. He was always that laid back, don’t give a shift kinda guy. But he can get serious when the time comes. I caught up with him and we made our way towards the mess hall for the morning meal. “So, you think we might finally get a shot at the simulation today?” I asked. “Maybe, but I wouldn't give your hopes up, our squad can barely keep a formation.” Sif replied. He was right, our other two squad members were a little behind in their training then me and Sif. Jessica Granger is the squad's combat medic and she just finished stage one, while our sniper, Dom Switchstep is just finishing stage one. Me and Sif are about halfway through stage two, and we already qualify for the simulation test. “Yeah, your right. But there's a chance as Jessica just hit stage two and Dom is almost done.” I muttered hopefully. I’ve been waiting for our shot at the simulation since hitting stage two of my training. But it is different for each class. Sif has the easiest one as it is just basic marksmanship and tactics. I for one has to learn advanced explosive and weapons systems if I wanna go into heavy weapons. Jessica has it the hardest with all that medical study she has to do. Dom is somewhere in the middle with the advanced marksmanship training to properly handle precision sniper rifles. “Only time will tell really, but hurry up we are already late.” Sif shifted into a jog as we continued down the hall, I picked up the slack and tried to keep up. Chapter 2: Class in Session Me made it to the mess hall, a large room with enough tables to hold all fifty four man squads training outta this base. My squad, nicknamed “Menace” has table fortyfive or somthing like that. Regardless, me and Sif got our lunch and for a busy military compound, the food aint bad. Simple, but not the worst. Today on the menu, ham sandwiches and some sotra energy drink supposed to help with exercise or whatever. Me and Sif made the long walk weaving between tables, chairs, and other people until we finally found out table. Jessica and Dom were already there, and we took our seats. “Took ya long enough to get down here, eh?” Jessica laughed. Dom was too busy scarfing his sandwich down to notice us. “Not my fault lazy bones here takes so long to get up.” Sif replied. “I woke up on time, it’s you who always stops to talk!” I sat down. “Oh would you two just shut up, we gotta stay focused. Some sorta commander guy from the Militia fleet is down here to overwatch the simulations today. Rumor says the best squads will get to be chosen for pilot school!” Dom chimed in. “No wait, really? Who is it?” I light up. “I think it’s some guy named Cooper, Jack Cooper.” Dom replied. I felt my jaw drop. “THE Jack Cooper?!” Jessica jumped. Dom looked confused. I could not believe he has not heard of him! As I said before, Jack Cooper is one of the most well known pilots in the entire army. “Place tell me you at least heard of the guy!” I snapped a bit. “Yeah I have, but it’s not like it is anything really over the top. People do crazy things then sacrificing his titan to stop the Apex Predators.” Dom yawed. Even Sif looked at him funny. “He did a bit more that that, ya know.” Sif said sarcastically. “Whatever, it’s old news anyway. What we need to focus on is the fact that we need to ace this simulation in order to get on the polit school list!” Dom snapped back. At least he did have a point. We all finished our food and went down to the actual training bays. The training bays themselves were like large classrooms, where the first stage of the program is learning the general and basic tactics of combat. Then it goes on describing the strengths and weakness of each class including general purpose, strengths and weaknesses. The last part of it is when you take an exam to help you choose the best class for you, but you don’t necessary have to go into that class. For example, I got the medic suggestion for wanting to support as much as possible, but I went into heavy weapons cause I look towards the more explosive way of supporting. Anyway, the second stage of the program is learning about your class. This varies from each class but it more or less goes into the potential on the class and advanced tactics that go well with that class. Then the third stage which is a squad based thing, so all squad members need to have completed the second stage in order to advance. The third stage is the simulation. The simulation throws squads into random simulation battles. Either it could be a squad vs AI, or squad vs squad. It is randomized, but it normally chooses between a general variety of modes. These modes include: CTF, Hardpoint, Attrition or Bounty Hunt. that is for the general forces, as polit school has a similar simulation stage but with titans. Polit simulation still has the modes that general forces do, but they add a few more called Last Titan Standing and Pilots vs Pilots. And of course pilots have their jump kits and tactical abilities but the biggest difference is of course the titan itself. There are six different titans in all, but the one I have read the most about is the Legion titan. I can’t wait to be given the chance to enter polit school, but first I need to pass training. And last I cheeked, a general soldier needs combat experience before entering polit school, so I also need to live first. Regardless, we made it to the training bays and this is where the squad has to split up. “Allright, catch you guys later.” I said making my way to the heavy weapons aera. The rest split off to their class area and I was ready to go. I’m almost done too. All I could think about is that simulation test, I just hope the rest of my squad is ready by the time Cooper gets here. Chapter 3: The Final Stage The moment I walked into the room, I noticed a rack of weapons sitting at the front, near the projector. After a 2ed look I noticed it was a rack of heavy weapons, Spitfire LMGs, the crazy missile LMG called the SMR or something, and Thunderbolt rocket launchers. I wondered why they are here, as he already covered the weapons unit of the HW program. “What’s all this about?” I asked the instructor. He rolled the weapon rack closer the first row of desks. “Well, today is the day you all will get officially get the certification to enter the simulation test, and here is will you will choose your loadouts.” The Instructor replied. Everyone lit up, we already knew we qualified but now we finally get the official stamp. The instructor told us to take our seats. As I sat down, the guy who sat next to me, Kevin Stronghold looked like he was about to go through the roof. “Excited there, eh?” I asked him, trying not to laugh. “Are you kidding me? This is what we have been waiting for since we started this program, of course I am!” Kevin replied. The instructor calmed us down and started calling us up by name. When he finally called me I almost jumped outta my chair. “Jet Sunstrider, come on up.” The instructor waved me up. I walked up and took a look at the rack. I already know what I want. I grabbed a Spitfire LMG and a Thunderbolt launcher. I also spotted some Firestar grenades. I holstered all my weapons and returned to my desk. About an hour later we were all geared up and ready to go. The instructor told us to head down to the simulation bay and wait for the rest of our squad. I almost got lost on my way but when I finally got their, Sif was already there holding what looked like a Flatline assault rifle and a auto pistol on his side. When he saw me he looked up and smirked. “You look like a camper who overpacked with those weapons on your back, ya know.” He chuckled. “Yeah well at least I got more firepower.” I replied, equipping my LMG. I gave it a look loaded it up. “Looks impressive, what’s that on your back?” Sif gestured to my launcher. “It’s called a Thunderbolt, it fires balls of supercharged electricity and overloads electrical systems, causing them to blow up.” I explained. “Interesting… anyway, any word on the rest of our squad?” Sif asked. “No, haven't heard from them since.” I replied. Sif rolled his eyes. Just then I heard footsteps behind and low and behold, Dom was standing here holding a Kraber sniper rifle. “Well Sif, you owe me 10 bucks.” I laughed. Sif grunted. “What?” Dom said, confused. “Sif thought Jessica was gonna be done before you, so we made a bet a long time ago.” I smiled. “Well, you better stay focused! You know how important this is!” Dom waved it off. “Jesus, can you just lighten up for once?” Both me and sif said in unison. Just then Jessica walked up from our left. “Sorry I’m late guys!” She said, holding a Volt energy smg. “Actually you're just in time.” Dom replied as the simulation doors opened. “All squads, please enter the simulation preparation area. Tests have been auto generated and will be announced one at a time.” The intercom boomed. Our squad exchanged looks, nodded and walked in. We finally have a chance to prove our worth. Chapter 4: The Simulation As we walked in the prep room, we could see the big arena with the observations deck overlooking the entire thing. The room itself looked like a massive gray room, but anyone in the observation deck can activate different terrain patterns to construct different maps. It all felt like some multiplayer game but this was no game, this is real. As I was lost in thought, I could see Jack Cooper himself and the base commander, Jacob Drax take their seats. I still could not believe that THE Jack Cooper was actually gonna choose some of our squads to take into polit school! I could feel goosebumps roll over my arms as Cooper started speaking into the intercom. “Alright, first up is gonna be Bravo and Foxtrot vs Omega and… Menece in a battle of attrition. Kill the enemy, earn points, simple as that. There will also be grunt and specter AI forces in the area. Let’s get this started!” Cooper’s voice boomed over the intercom. I could feel the shivers going down Sif’s spine as he called our squad. We all exchanged looks one last time as we made our way to one side of simulation room. “Ok, the map you will be fighting on is Crash Site, taken from when the first Militia ship crashed on Typhon, also when Cooper first found BT.” Drax boomed over the intercom. “Agh, why does it have to be this map! It’s the worst!” I shouted. I remember reading up on the simulation maps in my free time, and Crash Site seems to be the least popular. “I don’t think anyone likes this map, but we have no choice. Let’s just go!” Sif replied as we started moving up, checking behind rocks and through caves as we moved. To our left, a squad of Grunts jumped down and started making their rounds. I could see Omega squad on the cliff above us, apparently setting up a sniper nest. And as we made our way down a rocky hill, we spotted Foxtrot moving from the one building on this map. One of Omega’s snipers took a shot and barely missed the enemy squad leader. They scattered and returned fire on us, bullets landing just a few feet in front of us. We took our own cover and I took note of our height advantage, we should have this skirmish easy. I peaked out of cover and sprayed down the hill with my LMG right as a group of enemy Grunts rushed us. I gunned down most of the grunts before my mag ran out. “Gotta reload!” I shouted as I started the process. For a LMG, the reload was not as bad as old 2016 LMG’s. I managed to get the mag fitted and locked it in place just in time to see Dom take a shot, hitting one of Foxtrot right through the chest, he fell back and got teleported back to their side. “Nice shot!” Jessica noted. Sif chucked a grenade down at the enemy squad, destroying a rock that one of them was hiding behind. The guy jumped, and Dom took the moment and got him square between the eyes, causing him to disappear instantly. This was already going great, but then Bravo appeared on our right flank. One of them caught Dom off guard and sent him back to the spawn tubes, while one member of Omega had our back and took out Bravo’s heavy gunner. I took out my thunderbolt and fired a supercharged electro-ball and it went between two of them, but electric jumped out from the ball and zapped them both, stunning them. Jessica got one with a volley of energy bullets in the side. Sif got the other with a bullet to the head, as the last member just got outta there to wait for his friends to return. Just as I thought we were clear, an enemy specter squad found it’s way behind us. We were surrounded… then I got an idea. “Sif, Jessica, cover the right side. , Omega squad will get the left and front. I’ll get the rear!” I shouted as everyone shifted their position. I turned to face the spectors, who were in some sorta square formation. I looked around and saw a old support cable hanging from the cargo door of the Militia ship. I ran with all my strength and leaped off the top of a rock and reached for the cable with my off hand, almost completely missing it. I got a decent grip and swung forward with my lower body and used my momentum to fly through the air and jump kick one of the spectators in the head, causing it to fall and spark. After landing, I reached into my back pouch on my belt, grabbed a firestar grande, activated it and hurled it at the remaining spectors. It dug itself into one of the robot’s chest and suddenly blew up into thermite sparks, jumping to the other spectors and caused their metal bodies to melt. As they laid in a pile of scrap, I heard footsteps behind me and spun around to see one of Bravo’s flank units dash behind me. I fired my Spitfire but the little bastard got behind a log before I could get him. Then, out of nowhere, a sniper shot got me in the leg. I swore under my breath as I fell to the ground, hitting the rocks hard on my side. My leg hurt like hell, but I did not disappear back to spawn. I looked up to see the flank unit walking slowly towards me and I reached for the holster on my belt. I got my side arm, which is given to all classes by default and fired off a few rounds. I took a second look to see the guy fall to his knees, blood coming from three shots in his chest. He faded to respawn and the alarm blared, signaling the end of the simulation. We all got teleported back to our prep room. My leg still hurt, bit for the most part it was phantom pain as the simulation reset all shots fired. Then the intercom crackled to life once more. “And with that, the winning side is Menace and Omega by fifty points, and MVP goes to Jet Sunstrider of memence squad for his skills in the final minute. That was impressive, as most people would need a jump kit to support them doing something like that.” Cooper announced. Suddenly, my whole team burst into cheering, we had our chance to prove ourselves, and boy did we impress. Chapter 5: The Final Ceremony The next morning we were all called down to the hangar bay for a special ceremony. Most likely to announce those chosen by Cooper for polit school. It still felt weird being able to bypass all the requirements, but why was to complain, right? Regardless I went through my morning routine and meet up with my squad at the mess. “Hey guys, you ready for this? The moment of truth?” I asked sitting down, totally forgetting to get breakfast. Sif laughed. “Sorry, I’m just excited!” I put my fork down. Soon after we were all done “Yeah I guess, we did good though. No matter what happens guys, we are a good team, yeah?” Sif replied. We all nodded agreement. “Hey Jet, where's your food? You know it is never good to miss a meal.” Jessica said. Then I finally noticed that I was a bit hungry. I quickly got breakfast and got it down within minutes. “Jesus, no one's gonna take it from ya.” Sif laughed. We finished and made our way down to the hanger bay. I wondered why we had to go into the hanger, but I guess it is the only area big enough to fit everyone inside. We filled in and soon, every squad was inside the hanger standing in front of Cooper and Drax. They had some sorta mic stand with them, too. “Test… test…hello?” Drax tested the mic and some of us laughed a bit. “Alright good. Ok, so you know that Cooper is going to choose exactly five squads from us in order to go into polit school, but first their is a critical mission to attack a high security IMC production facility on the moon plant on the other side of this solar system, and those five squads are also gonna company Cooper and his polit squad as a true test of skills. So without further delay, Cooper, you have the floor.” Drax gave Cooper the mic as he got ready to speak. I could feel the tension building in the room, everyone anxious to find out who is chosen. “Ladies and gentlemen, you have been spending the better part of your lives training to become soldiers in the Militia army and you all have well, but there is a higher demand for pilots on the frontier. The IMC have been increasing their firepower, mass producing more Titans and are advancing on liberated planets, including Hossin, a swamp plant just on the other side of this solar system. And as Drax said, I need a buffer squad to help our forces in that area gain an advantage. Therefore, I will be selecting five of your squads along with me. And those who survive I will take into polit school. Understood?” Cooper finished. We all shouted our compliance in unison. “Alright everyone calm down, Cooper will list off the squads and you will report to the far end of the hangar bay where transports are waiting.” Drax waved us to shut up, and gave a nod to Cooper. “The squads I will be taking are as follows. Omega, Charlie, Ironside, Willco, and…. Menace. Would you all please step forward.” Cooper finished his list and my squad lit up, along with the rest of the people chosen we walked up to the front of the group. We heard some mumbles of disappointment behind us and whispers of excitement among us chosen. “Alright, you know what to do. To the far side of the hanger, double time! The rest of you, return to your barracks and get some rest. You have the rest of the day off.” Drax shouted. We all gave Drax and Cooper a salute, and those choen started jogging towards the end of the hanger, and the rest disappeared inside the training facility. I can’t believe we finally have a chance to see some real action, not just a simulation. Chapter 6: The Frontier There was three transports waiting for us and as we approached the doors hissed open. Inside was a simple troop transport area, seats running along both walls and a door leading into the cockpit. My squad got inside and bucked in, ready to go. “Ready to roll” I asked not only my squadmates, but all the others who were chosen. Everyone nodded and Cooper told the pilot to lift off. “Alright guys, we are gonna hit slip space soon. Hold on tight!” Cooper shouted over the engine. Before anyone could ask what that meant, the transport started warping and suddenly a loud bang rang in my ears and I was blinded by a flash of light. Everything calmed down and I managed to open my eyes and look out the side window, and we were already in Hossin’s atmosphere. And it really was a massive swap, but we saw smoke rising from battles occurring all over the planet. “So, where are we going?” Sif asked Cooper. “You guys are gonna get dropped a few miles out from a Militia com tower, you and the other grunt squads are gonna attack the com tower and either hack it or destroy it. Depending on if you have the time to get the hack off.” Cooper replied. I noticed he called us grunts, and not trainees or anything like that. I guess we really are considered part of the army now. As we flew to our DZ, we saw the fighting that was going on. Grunts, spectres, and even titans everywhere on both sides going head to head. Almost every quadrant of the surface had fighting going on, whether it was over outposts, towers, or even just strategic positions. We finally got to our DZ after almost getting shot down by a IMC Tone titan, and the cargo doors hissed open and ropes were thrown down to the ground. Cooper gave us the green light to deploy and we all jumped on the ropes and flew down to the ground, think in the combat zone. “Alright, get to that com tower. Titan support will meet you after you get it down, good luck grunts!” Cooper shouted as the transports flew away. We did a quick ammo and equipment cheek, and charged into the battle, determined to get the job done. No matter what, we now finally have a chance to show what we truly got. As defeat is not an option.
