Tosh's Homemade Kite by tannim July 15, 2011 "No! My kite! Mamma, my kite!" Tosh tugged at the string, but his kite stuck in the bush firmly after its sudden nose dive out of the air. Esme rubbed his back as she took the string. "Come on, lets see how bad it is. Well, that kite isn't going to fly again. Not with the struts and canvas torn." Her son looked up at her, his lower muzzle tight with trying not to cry. "I'll have to get you a new one. Do you think you can wait until after dinner?" She kissed him before leading him back to the car and then to home. Tosh looked out the window, the wind had been really fun and he'd enjoyed watching his sky friend dancing so high up. He looked at the string once home and left more or less alone. Despite being four, he decided he could make his OWN kite. Getting help from his mom was out of the question, as she was frying up some summer squash and there was no way he was going to interrupt THAT. Instead of looking up any information on kites, the little kid rummaged around in drawers and cabinets for inspiration. All of the kites he'd used, all two of them, had been really light and made of something very easy ripped. He'd poked a hole right through his first one, but Esme had taped it up and it had worked fine, until it's accident with the string breaking. With the needed material attribute in mind he thought of design. It had to be flat, or flat-ish and it had to be able to be tied to a string. Tosh frowned. There had to be some sort of stick inside it too, for some reason. His newly deceased kite had had some sticking out of it anyway. A bit of digging revealed the perfect stick on the floor of a closet in the form of a thin curved wooden coat hanger that had had it's hook broken off. How he'd attach it to whatever he ended up with for the material wasn't important. It was flimsy and light and looked reasonably close to what he'd seen on the other kites. Tosh smuggled it off to his play room before resuming the search. A shirt was too thick he decided. The paper laying around Esme's work area was too short and he didn't like the color, he did steal the stapler though. On the way out he passed by the laundry and a very filmy bit of cloth caught his eye. He dug them out of the "clean" basket and held them up. His mom's panties were bigger than the paper, when not folded in half, and were very light. They had pretty colors in the form of red as the main color and black and purple dots on it. A frilly black lace ran along the waist and also around the leg holes. Big, light, pretty... he ran back to the playroom and, after spending about 5 minutes shooting staples into the air, got back to trying to make a new kite. Trying to put the stick on the outside didn't seem to work too well. Tosh couldn't think of how to get them to stay together. After opening his mother's panties, however, he found that the hanger fit very snugly inside with the rough edges wedging in well enough to not need anything tied or stapled or taped to it. Even better, the curve of the coat hanger pushed into the crotch of the thin underwear to make it keep its shape. Tosh held it up, it did LOOK a bit like a kite. He tried to figure out how to connect the string and finally came up with tying a knot into the frilly bits with two bits of string that were then tied to the main line in the middle. It looked even more like a kite with the string and with nothing else he could think of to add, decided to try it out. That his mother may disapprove of the new kite materials never occurred to him or bothered him. She had her back turned to him when he called out he was going to play in the yard, which was right in front of the kitchen window. He sounded happy when she told him to have fun, but to be careful, on his way out and she finally glanced up from where she was chopping some carrots. Tosh wasn't sure if his new toy would fly, but that he had a new kite was all that mattered as he ran with it flopping and bouncing in the grass behind him. The string grew tight as it ran out and he ran around in circles trying to get the panty kite up. Shortening the string didn't work but lengthening it seemed to help a little. After a minute of frustration with the kite bumping along the grass instead of lifting off, he tried running further. A quick walk to the edge of the yard with the kite in one hand and he ran at full clip to the other side, throwing the kite behind him about halfway. The panties billowed out around the coat hanger inside and the strong wind blew just right to keep them inflated and flying relatively smoothly behind him. Tosh cheered as he changed his grip to hold the string a bit higher with one hand while the other pressed right against the cute star in the middle of his shirt. His cloven hooves bit into the grass as he turned at the edge of his yard. Esme glanced out and smiled when she saw him running by, set the plate down on the counter for serving, then looked out again as a thought nagged at her. Where did he get a new kite? She looked up at it and her face went blank. The mother goat took off her apron and hurried outside to watch a pair of her panties flying through the air with surprising grace. Tosh laughed as he ran past her and all she did was shake her head in amusement. It was embarrassing, but it was also very clever and would save her about five dollars in gas and the price of a new kite. The fabric was probably more durable than the cheap garbage kites she'd been buying as well. The prospect of getting to buy new underwear also made it more acceptable... but it was STILL rather embarrassing as a car slowed down while driving by. The man inside stopped and craned his neck, then pulled away in a hurry when Esme focused her Motherly stare of disapproval at him. Turning back to her son, Tosh finally stopped and held the string in a good breeze like he would a normal kite. Her large panties fluttered a bit and randomly dipped and swayed with wind variance, but each time they smoothed back out into a nice stable position. Esme crouched next to him and kissed his cheek. "I like your new kite, I think. However did you build that?" The little kid looked at the kite, then back at her. "I dunno." She shook her head in amazement, boys had such ability to not pay even the slightest bit of attention to what they were doing, especially when they were only four. Still, it was impressive and the food did need to cool a few more minutes, the breeze felt good, her son was happy. It was a good afternoon for kite flying... no matter how unusual and intimate it was.
