To the edge of space and beyond our explorers ventured, though for some reason they didn't expect that beyond the edge of space that they would find... Nothing. I mean seriously, what could they expect? Millions and millions of lightyears of nothingness before them, and their home universe speeding away behind them. Despite this, they had a feeling of accomplishment, having traveled farther than any other being in the galaxy. Physics seemed to be the same even on the fringe of everything that had ever existed. They wondered silently if their discovery would have any impact on the universe of if they'd simply found what they could see before them, that is to say, nothing. They themselves weren't quite sure how they had managed to actually reach the edge, though the people who worked out faster-than-light travel weren't quite sure either, it was just accidentally discovered and they decided to roll with the discovery. Despite being able to improve upon their new technology, they couldn't replicate it due to the seeming randomness of the original finding of the method. All that aside, the explorers decided that venturing further would probably be futile. After setting up some extremely long-range and highly sensitive observation equipment and not being able to find even the most remote trace of anything ahead of them they decided to travel just a bit further. After finding nothing, much to their expectations at this point, they decided to turn around and head back to mission control. However, to their confusion, none of their instruments were responding. To their dismay, they couldn't see anything outside their ship due to having outrun the oldest lights in the universe. To their horror, they were lost beyond the edge of space. Finally, to their elation, they could see! Their instruments worked again! They traveled back to mission control, told of their experiences, and finally made it home. Many years would pass without incident, they’d live happy lives for some time before an extraordinary discovery would be thrust upon their universe, the existence of another universe! To their confusion, it seemed almost the same. To their dismay, they found new life in the new universe. To their horror, they found themselves.
